As you've probably noticed changes have happened to the names of the UPE conferences this year..

Unofficial Propeller Expo West (UPEW) has become The Official Propeller Conference on May 4th, 2013.

Unofficial Propeller Expo NE (UPENE) has become Propellerpowered Expo NE on August 17th, 2013

The Propellerpowered Expo NE will be held a just a little further south this year. We've established a new facility in Kidron, OH It's more suited to the needs of the Expo group with plenty of room to grow.

I'll provide details for hotel reservations and the like as we get closer to this date. For now we just want you to circle that day in your calendars. Details on the Propellerpowered expo will be at it's usual URL.

Why was it Unofficial in the first place??

Back in 2006 when Parallax had no idea who I was, and I didn't know Ken and Chip weren't stuffy "suits" that wouldn't be open to someone forming a gathering around their product, I called the event "unofficial" so that we wouldn't have to ask permission and receive the typical "NO" you would get from other less progressive companies. Little did I know at the time just what kind of cool I had tapped into. We fully support the official dropping the "unofficial" name and maintaining the expo events which are centered around your projects, your excitement, with plenty of sharing and interaction you've always loved about expo gatherings! Long live The Official Propeller Expos!

    Hello Jeff,

Weren't you able to secure the location at Norwalk again this year? It seemed like a good location to have the expo.

Our facility in Kidron is quite a bit more modern than the Amish, but that picture comes from about two miles away in downtown Kidron. Probably on an auction Saturday by the looks of it.

LOL - This is great - maybe I'll consider buying my next van there.

This move will actually save me a bit over one third of the distance on my trip, plus it will eliminate my tolls. Betterer and betterer!

Also, I noticed that it is less than 10 miles from Orrville (wonder why that may be )

We will be there again this year.

I'll be there too! Like Granz it'll cut a third of the trip and tolls. So there are Amish there. I may get a free ride since my mother-in-law transports Amish between Pennsylvania and Ohio. I'm sure the Amish won't be offended with my electronics since my mother-in-law knows at least one Amish that has a handheld GPS unit :)!

I had a meeting with my business partner (AKA: comptroller, keeper-of-the-nose-to-the-grindstone, motivator and wife) earlier and came up with some prerequisites for me attending the Expo this year (I need to treat this like, or at least pretend to, a business trip.) One of my prerequisites is to make a course for a robot contest (this will bring thousands (err, OK, maybe less) potential customers over to my table to see the excitement.)

The contest that I would like to run would be a There-And-Back contest, you can find more info on my Projects page at: http://projects.granzeier.com/2013/03/25/robot-contests/. There is a link to a page with a description of the contest and the rules. I liked the robot contests from yesteryear, they seemed to be popular. But, I wanted something a bit more structured. I'm hoping that this may boost attendance (especially if the prizes are good enough.) I can, maybe, provide some prizes, but we would really need some others who can donate additional prizes for the contests. We will also be in need of some volunteers to do the judging (unfortunately, the judges will not be eligible to compete.)

    Any thoughts on this idea?

We've locked in our location! The Greene (Note the absence of Amish buggies on the website) :)http://thegreenecenter.com

The facility is new and has everything we need to host a great event!

Wow, we're stepping it up a bit from the gymnasium that usually gets used.

Speaking of grand venues, there's a CASTLE for sale in Amsterdam New York. A bargain at just $895K. A beautiful 1895 National Guard armory with a complete gymnasium /basketball court/drill hall attached. I want to timeshare it out for various people and events. An upstate NY Parallax Expo would be grand. Who wants to buy a month (fractional ownership) of a castle for $85,000 cash? Yes, I'm serious.

It looks really nice, Jeff! I can't wait for the party to start.

That nice water feature there makes me think of some sort of robot boating competition. Maybe something for next year so folks have time to plan and build.

I love to drive and that is one heck of a drive:)

Ken wants to give you some of those $.23 connectors for the Prop2 module. Can't wait for the raffle on them:)

We're running behind on the website update, but not on expo preparation! Just did the final plan/walkthru on the Greene Center. You guys will see that this is a big facility improvement over our Norwalk location.

Website should be ready with full information soon!!

Edit: Here's a peek at the new location.

We'll be using the Gym (about half the size of our Norwalk gym, making it perfect for us!) and the connecting kitchen/confernce room.
No more rolling vinyl sheets out the night before!

This thread has been the "unofficial" thread to keep folks apprised of the upcoming event.

The official thread is located at: http://propellerpowered.com/forum/index.php?topic=483.0
