    You might be able to scale down - say 1/4 size or smaller. Actually it could be fun and if you find the right size cardboard tube for a base structure, the rest might be easy. You might have to cut a few corners off the BOEbot to make it fit in a tube though.

    Haha! I already did this using a standard BOE-bot, some cardboard, a servo to rotate the head, and so on. I made a video explaining it, including a link to source code download for BS2. Here the link to this video is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNSNEbQQ1Z4
    Also, sorry if this thread was too long ago.

    I agree with erco, this is a fun robot. Thanks for posting a link to the video.

    Great use of paper to make a big bot but lightweight enough to use a tiny 9g servo to rotate the head. :)

    We might need to have a paper robot contest.

    Yes, "might"...

    It's nearly 2015. Weren't we supposed to be evolving into a paperless society? :)

    Glad you all enjoyed it! As sad as it is, that R2-D2 was disassembled (as all robots are eventually!). You guys are making me want to reassemble him! I might add some features, too, like a PING sensor in the head...

    Paperless society? Never will happen. Paper is a handy fundamental material from natural fiber resources. At this point, we cut more trees down for paper than we use for building homes and furniture.

    Cardboard is still evolving. Would you prefer plastic replace it?

    On the other hand, I use my "Print to PDF" feature (in Linux, not sure what other OSes provide for this) frequently these days and my laser printer remains in Off mode. With 1Tbyte hard disks, there is no reason to print out all that stuff that subsequently needs filing and so on.

    ++++++++++
    When this was first posted, I thought and R2-D2 replica to be a bit silly. But now it seems quite fun to do a 'blast from the past' project.

    @Hillier: If your bot is no more, then we are all starting from scratch. If we make paper bots that balance on top of a ball with Christmas themes doing figure eights, we can kill 3 birds with one soldering iron. See the "Eve" challenge, "Figure Eight", and "Hack the Halls" contest threads.

    Should we use Christmas wrapping paper, or maybe gift box material?
