I doubt it. These are made in relatively small quantities and the price reflects that. This looks like a development board for a particular series of RFID products made by TI.

What do you want to do with RFID? Is there some particular type of RFID tag that you're constrained to use? They come in a variety of frequency ranges. Parallax has products that support the 125KHz tags. These are relatively large although there are some very small capsule-like tags available. There's a software-only RFID reader that was posted here that uses only a Propeller and some passive components. That would be a great way to get started ... and a lot cheaper.

    Like Mike said.

If you simply want to use one form of RFID, just pick up one of our readers and a bunch of tags. This 125KHz system works very well together and we've provided enough code and project examples to control your dog door or manage your warehouse. We've got some other RFID products in the early development stages (active RFID) that'll round out our selection very nicely. Can't say anything else about that...and better hope my colleagues don't read this post!

Parallax has done very well in the RFID niche. You have nothing to lose by using our products and we'll gladly refund a purchase anytime in the future if they don't work out.

Just trying to learn more about the technology. Were I work we have ID badges currently they are just code-39 barcodes. Our time clock (thin client) setup has serial barcode readers, these are starting to act flaky. I am looking for a new solution to present, but I have to have a firm grasp on the technology behind it before I attempt to present it.

I used the Parallax RFID W/R paired with a Spinneret for use in a secure entry application a while back. Basic user information is stored on a RFID card. On card swipe, the card ID and user data is sent to a service. The service authenticated the user against an database and returns an XML doc to the Spinneret. The Spinneret parses the XML doc and fires a relay to unlock the door if the user is authenticated and authorized to enter the area. It works very well and due to the XML interface the Authenticating/Authorizing service can be hosted on just about anything networkiee.

I didn't see a thing-- which means that it certainly did not pique my interest. And I will not in any way wait to hear any more information that in no way exists...

There. Did we dodge the bullet intact?

I think so, Jordan. Friday came and I still have my job, so Monday should be no different!
