Hi All,

We just posted a new project on Learn.Parallax.com that was created by Nick Ernst our Engineering Technician here at Parallax.

His Corpsman Up project allows the remote monitoring of multiple patient's vital signs, in this case heart rate, and their display on a single readout unit.

Visit the Corpsman Up Page on Learn.Parallax.com for more details on the project.

We hope this simple project helps inspire you to create your own microMedic contest entry.

Cool, and here are a couple of additions for him to think about. 1) encode each remote with an id and stencil it on the case in big letters display the code rather than a name for speed of use. 2) since he has heart rate, he should take it a step further and code for alarms on arrythmia conditions. Further code the base to give immediate priority to unacknowledged alarms. While these suggestions are part of my first submission, I am leaning toward some PT apps, other projects may benefit from these two ideas. The alarms are simple enough to implement as you are looking at comparison of a running average (to try to eliminate false alarms) against an upper (tachy) and lower limit (brady) heart rates or missing beats. Looking in the literature, arrythmias can result from blunt force trauma to the chest, think football, MVAs and IEDs.

Also if your dead set on monitoring have a look at what the OEMs like Philips are able to do for ideas. For example look up Intelliview mp60 or mp70. TI is a huge resource for devices intended for medical applications. Too many ideas, not enough time.

    Frank
