So I was wondering if someone could tell me when the next application review is going to be? The rules page say they happen every twp weeks, and juding by kens post it seems like there may have already been a review of about 10 applications is this right?

Iv'e also never entered a contest before so im not to sure how things work. All finished projects are to be open source M.I.T from what I remember reading, this is correct? Is it in our best interest to keep what were up to as secret as possible till the contest ends, or should we be open with our competitors during the contest?

Application review happened today, so the next review is scheduled for February 5th.

Yes applications are to be open source.

It's up to you on how open you want to be publicly on what you're working on. But it is a competition ;)

    I hope this helps.

So if are project was suppose to be reviewed today, when do we find out if we were approved and receive a contest number?

We had a review today and Emily will be sending out communications to those getting kits and to others who are not getting a kit or did not request one will get a contestant or project number for their final submission. BTW, all the entries that had working videos got kits in this review. There were some where we couldn't view the video or they weren't submitted.

Also, the videos don't have to have your exact solution for what you will submit (though that is nice), you can also make a video about why you want to do the contest or what sorts of things you are going for. We expect people to get very creative along the way....

Ive acually seen some of the other contestants app videos by searching you tube for micro medic, I would say SRLM may want to rename his video if he doesn't want anyone else to see it ;), I dont think the other guys were forumers.

Anyways some of the videos werent really about there projects at all, which im sure were covered in there applications. Are you guys being selective about who gets kits, or is it basically first come first serve, as long as you put enough effort in to make a video?

Also what happens if we submit one idea win a kit, but have some unexpected problems with the idea and want to try something different? I dont plan on that happening to me but I figure it is a valid question for all of us, becuase you never know what may happen during a project design.

Ive also been wondering about the micro controller rules, now I know we can use any controller we want. But are we allowed to use multiple micro controllers? I may need to add a third piece of physical hardware to my project and an arduino would be the better choice for that, as its small and has an internal ADC, and would only really read the colorpal. Also what about systems like a rasberryPI, im guessing those arent fine, although a cortex ARM micro is?

I don't really mind if others see my video. It's not any secret.

Hi RWGAST. Multiple microcontrollers should be fine, not sure if Raspberry PI counts as a microcontroller - it probably crosses the line to being a computer. Interesting thought is that one could use a computer type thing in conjunction with microcontrollers for sure. (If the microcontroller definition were too broad, people would be submitting cell phone and tablet apps, which really isn't the focus of what we want.) TATRC will probably sponsor a mobile contest or a future robotics contest for that.

Good question, Chris. You can use anything you want. You don't have to use the kit at all. You do have to use a microcontroller.

Julia, another member of the microMedic team at Parallax, will be contacting those who's applications were reviewed in the last cycle.
