Just saying, you can control the new Apple iPhone
with the Propeller chip and it's talking speech program
using Apple's new Siri, a kind of listening, speaking
and task performing intelligence.

You've got to pay attention to the details ...

To activate Siri for each transaction, you have to press and hold the iPhone's front button until Siri beeps twice. It won't respond to voice input until that point. You could hack an earphone / microphone cord using a reed relay to "press" the equivalent button and you could have access to the audio input and output the same way (hacking). This is not a big deal, but you have to do it before you can use Siri.

I wish Apple hadn't made it so difficult to interface with the iPhone...

I thought I heard that Bluetooth v4.0 was going to make it easier, but can't find a specific example of a user doing this...
There are devices like this though that may let us use this new "Bluetooth Smart" mode:

That's a very good idea, Mike. I have a robot servo on hand, so without hacking the iPhone, the same Propeller chip can turn a Parallax servo horn to activate iPhone's button. A small round piece of cork or rubber helps preserve the surface of the switch. The OBEX routine moves the servo a proper amount and a small timing algorithm keeps track of the hold-down time.

It's designed to be simple with devices "discoverable" automatically. I've only worked with it a day so far with good first step results - for example, just set the Apple Wireless keyboard next to the new iPhone and make sure it's not already connected to another Bluetooth device. I'm planning to use Bluetooth as part of a craft, with the iPhone, launched into Near Space. I've heard Apple has improvement updates for the new version in the works.

Another simple option bypasses the new iPhone's mechanical switch. It uses the free "built into the OS" virtual on-screen assisted touch-switch and requires a small setup. Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, turn on AssistiveTouch, go back to home, and position the Power Ball to an unused space. Put a small stylus on the servo to tap the Power Ball and the Siri button will come up in the same place every time. Match this position with the Power Ball or a servo. Now the servo(s) can use the stylus to activate both the Power Ball switch and Siri when necessary. The details can be worked out with position and a Propeller chip controlling servo(s), timing, and audio.

I just saw the voice stuff work on an android phone. I don't use the voice stuff much (kids are sleeping, etc) but it might be easier on android.

Is there a link for this and description of how it can be operated with the Propeller chip?
