QuickStart and Ciseco XRF Wireless Serial - Great Stuff !

For a long time - several years now - I have been looking for a decent (read : low) priced quality wireless solution. I have to give ten thumbs up for this one :

It's about $15 each and 4 wires to hook up to a Quickstart Propeller board.

I ordered a half dozen of these about a month ago and have been testing them since - they all worked right out of the box for pass-thru serial and none of them have yet to fail. The maker is in the UK - but my order got here (TX) in about a week. I got two of the USB version (URF & SRF) ones and four of the standalone ones with the BOBs (about $2.75 US) here :

I have not range tested them yet - but lots of other people have so I am satisfied that part will work. I use my PC with the MSCOMM32.ocx object to pickup serial events from the Propeller. This gives me a lot of flexibility as far as communicating with other devices. Range is supposed to be 300m up to several kilometers LOS. There is an amped up ARF version scheduled to appear this month as well -and the XRF's have a repeater mode invoked with a few AT commands. It is a very slick setup.

As mentioned in some of my other threads I have been using Propellers to control CCTV cameras and muxes, the XRF's I plan on using to control an aquaponics system like this one (among other things).

Another XRF thread :

And the XRF forum - which BTW I have found the tech support there very fast - I get an answer to most stuff in a few hours (or less).

BTW - dont own stock in the company etc etc - just thought that Prop guys might like to hear of an alternative to some of the other wireless that has been talked about here.
