It happens to us all, but I was saddened to learn of his death earlier today

I think it was the 'future' as portrayed by this gentleman [UFO, Space 1999, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, et al.] that sent into the world of sci-fi (and thenc electronics/computer).

I guess you could say he gave me the 'start'.

I have even used the "anything can happen in the next 1/2 hour.." audio grab as a phone ring tone on a few of my 'favourite' customers

Thanks Gerry...

That's sad news. Don't forget about Fireball XL5, Supercar, and all the other series he working on too. Some really neat ideas in a lot of his shows.

So sad to hear. Fireball XL5 and Stingray were two of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I can still remember sitting in my grandparent's living room watching Stingray on a 19" black and white Zenith TV. My grandfather would often watch it with me, since it was on in the half-hour right before the evening news with Walter Cronkite started.

Fireball XL5 episode "Space Dragons" was my introduction to science fiction. The scene with the dragons chasing the flying scooters really stuck with me. It scared the hell out of me for weeks (I was three), and influenced my pursuit of science (I wanted to make sure MY scooter would be able to properly evade the dragons).

I watched the same episode with my daughter when she was three, it seems to have had a similar effect.

I really loved Space 1999 and especially UFO - Bless those aluminized mini skirts!

    Sad indeed.

I loved watching Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlett as a child during the school holidays and Space 1999 and UFO as a adolescent.

May we all remember his genius talent.
My family was hooked on Supercar and Fireball XL5.
It had something to do with ordering a jet engine
when I just a little kid and building rockets from
leftover shotgun shells. Luckily interests moved on to
ham radio, SWL, robots, and I managed to survive.
