I have been told for a long time now that the end of time is today. At my location it is 3.15 in the morning now and I was looking forward observing the terminal proceedings later in the day. However I just found out that time ends at 11:11UTC or 13:11 local time. Which means I'm likely to sleep through it as I can't stay awake much longer. I always miss the interesting events, eclipses and such, now I'm going to miss the end of time dammit.

Anyway, just wishing everybody the best of end times and thanks for all the great debates here on the greatest geek'n'gadget forum on the internet. Well, apart from that last seriously long and dull copyright debate which, under the circumstances, we don't have to worry about anymore, thank God.

I think I'm just going to sample the last bottle of wine in the house and slip into the eternal void....

Edit: Wait a minute, can't be an "eternal void" if there is no time anymore. Well, whatever. See ya.

Take care, Heater! See you when our cycles get reset!!

Let's see, 11:11 UTC, the would be 6:11 EST....great, the dog will wake me up, I'll take him out to do his business and the world will end...

I guess my timing isn't that great either....seems like dog poo is usually involved!

Yeah, I hate it when the world ends first thing in the morning. Hardly gives you time to wake up.

Shouldn't we lie down? Put paper bags over our heads or something?

Well, there is nothing festive about the 21st December (mid-winter solstice) around here. It's minus 15C and dark. The day is only 5 hours 48 minutes and 56 seconds. The Mayans sure picked a good time for it.

On the bright side, if the world can survive the Mayan calendar rollover, like all good Spin programs handling CNT correctly, then tomorrow is just that little bit brighter already.

Unlike all you losers, I'm ready for this. I've maxed out my credit cards - all 23 of them, buying food enough for 7 years, guns, ammo, body armor, diet pepsi, and petroleum jelly. I've bought a new jeep, heavily armored it, and stockpiled enough water and dog treats to last me a hundred years. I'm ready for everything and anything.

    Except a massive coronary.

    Yep they had it right.....

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane
And Lenny Bruce is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs.
Feed it off an aux speak, grunt
No strength the ladder starts to clatter with the fear, fight down height.
Wire in a fire, representing seven games with a government for hire and a combat site.
Left of West and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.
Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop.
Look at that low playing! Fine then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do.
    Save yourself, serve yourself.
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed.
Dummy with the rapture and the reverent in the right - right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light,
    Feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

What's funny is that this is of course the darkest day of the year, and more so here where I live because the sun actually stays below the horizon (and has been doing that for some weeks). But, of all days, today is the brightest day so far this dark season.. there are thin clouds very high up, and the sun (which is way below the horizon) lights up the sky and the sky lights up the mountains so that it looks like the sun is shining on the mountains and the town. Very bright, very beautiful.

Glad you're concerned about the backup! Good on you for your dedication! Their will be a little something extra in the pay...well, not important!

Yup, the dog woke up early and did his business. I figured I'd stay up for the end. I sure hope the coffee finishes, I'd sure like one last good cup of coffee!

A 7 year supply of Diet Pepsi! Now there is a guy with a survival plan.

I have just set aside a 5 pack of instant noodles, a liter of water, and a couple of candles. I figure I can borrow the rest a bit later.

Hey, the sky cleared up, the Moon is out, Jupiter is bright, and suddenly at the last moment in the night just before midnight, the Earth shook and wobbled shockingly on its axis, it was dizzying and spinning, and it did appear the end was near and then the realization, no, wait, it's only the loose leg on the chair. The ill fated Mayan Calendar simply resets at midnight and someone can wait another 5,126 years...(assuming five place location count positions of the long count ascending notations calendar)

    braino,

It's damn cold and dark and quite out here, what with not having a world or time any more.

I no, wait a minute, I'm in Finland still, that's what's it's like here mid winter.

Still, just as the end of time passed by the sky split open and for a minute there was a glimpse of the sun. Terrifying but inspiring.

All backups complete. I can get on with the next eternity now, or at least Christmas.
