Desktop Developmet File/command transfer to Eddie Platform

I currently have the development system on my desktop, along with it loaded on the laptop for the Eddie platform. I am a newbie intiallly I had the Eddie controller card plugged to my desktop development machine. I did this to verify that I could send comands using the Parallax serial terminal. Now that I have a laptop on my eddie platform how do I easily send commands from my desktop system to the laptop, and also I how shall I best transfer files to the proper location to the laptop?
