Hey OBC,
Will there be a UPEW coinciding with this?

    Hey Roy!

The Parallax team is busy working out the details of the 2013 Expo. There will definitely be a Propeller component to the event. Please stay tuned for more details as we work out all the specifics. We hope you'll be able to make it again this year.

I plan to be there, and several friends are planning on it too.

I'd like to make a suggestion: that the expo be two days long, with at least one weekday. I went last year, and I found Friday of the expo very productive and educating as a software professional. The Saturday portion of the expo had so many children that it completely changed the tone of the event from technical exchange to fun fair.

*Children are fine, but I would like to go in order to exchange ideas with other members of the community, not get an introduction to the hobby.

I have to agree with SRLM. I've gone to the last three UPEWs. The first two were great. But with this year's being split between Friday and Saturday; I was not able to make the Friday session due to work. And with the exception of Rick, Saturday's was a waist of my time for the same reasons as stated by SRLM. So if left in the same format as this year's, I for one will not be attending. Don't get me wrong, the robotics part was great, but I went there for the Propeller Expo and that was lacking when compared to the two prior years.

I'll talk with Lauren about adding Friday as part of the Propeller EXPO.

We will also host a Thursday evening reception at Parallax for everybody who's coming into town early. This time can be used for having a bit to eat and drink, setting up some tables for Friday, and just getting some projects arranged. The Thursday reception would start at 4:00 pm on Thursday and go to about 10:00 pm - it'll be up to me and a few of you to see that we wrap it up at that time because I'm not about to wear our staff out too much considering this is a full two-day event.

I'll need to get final buy-in from Lauren since there are other activities around the same time, and what I don't know I don't know.

Jim and Cody: The Expo is at William Jessup University, about a quarter mile away from the Parallax building.

For the record: The Expo is a single-day public event. Saturday, May 4th only. We wil be setting up all day Friday.

    Cheers, Jen J.

More information to come in the New Year. We still need to get together to discuss scheduling, staffing, all events etc. As soon as the team meets we'll update the forum with more details about the reception and event. There will be a Propeller class on Friday so space on Friday will need to be discussed to see if it's possible to make this a two day event. Please bear with us while we figure out the details. Happy Holidays!

OK, so I spoke a bit too soon.

The marketing crew is in charge of this, and I'm not fully aware of the commitments we've already made regarding scheduling and events. Sorry about that, Lauren, Jen and Emily!

Please direct the inquiries in their direction.

If all fails for making Friday into an expo day/UPEW day, we could make it a hacking day! No idea where, but for those who want to hack but still get sleep at a normal hour, instead of late late night hacking, maybe make a day of hacking?

Hmmm, this comes off as a bit more negative than I intended. I just want to say that I appreciate all the hard work that goes into setting up these events. I've done plenty of small events myself, and I can only imagine the effort required to attend something this big. I'm still interested in going to the all day Saturday event, and I look forward to the expo. I'll hopefully be able to table a new product that I'm working on.

Thanks SRLM it was a good suggestion, not negative at all. Originally we did want the Expo to be a two day event but because of space issues we decided to make it into one long day with a reception for the UPEW crowd the evening before. We're still working out all the details. I like Tymkrs suggestion about an informal off-site hacking meet-up on Friday before the reception. After the holidays when Ken and marketing meet we'll have a better idea of the schedule. More to come...

Happy New Year to everyone! The marketing group met and determined that there will be a space for an Electronics Expo right next to the Robotics Expo competitions at William Jessup University. The Electronics Expo space will be where the UPEW group will be. Tables will line the wall like we've had at Parallax in the past. There will also be presentations that will take place in a room next door. We've secured Staybridge Suites for a UPEW reception on Friday the night before the event. Set-up will take place on Friday afternoon. We're looking forward to a fun event.
