Fine tuning the Emic 2

One thing that I need the Emic 2 to do is speak my callsign. I am having trouble getting it to sound the way I would like. The closest I have gotten is to have it say "W. 9. G. F. O.". Doing it like that makes it say each letter without altering the pitch based upon where the letter falls within the "word". The problem is that the pause between letters is excessive. I have tried decreasing the period length but it makes no difference. Increasing period length makes it worse of course.

If commas are used instead then it varies the emphasis and pitch of the letters, but the cadence is good. If "\/" is used in order to correct the pitch then it takes too much time - acting as if a period was inserted.

Another alternative is to decrease the pitch rise using [:dv pr xx) but that makes it sound very monotone and robotic.

Any ideas on how to make it say each letter with equal emphasis, and not too long of a pause in between?

You'll have much more control if you use the DECtalk parser.

    This example says "W9G"
    S [:phone arpa speak on][:rate 300][:n0][dah<300,10>blx<300,10>yu<300,10>_<300>nay<310,10>n_<300>giy<310,10>][:n0]

If you only want short pauses, use spaces, if you want slightly longer pauses, use a , between the characters. As you've found, the . char makes it pause longer, as well as give it a final type of tone. Depending on the entonation you want, just using spaces or comas should do the trick, if that doesn't do what you want, then you'll need to use the phoenic mode (switch into the epson mode, then you can direct each syllable it pronounces, and how it does so)
