Am I blind or does this part not exist?

I'm looking at a device which is controlled by a variable resistor.
Is there a micro-controllable device which the variable resistor can be replaced?
Ether this part doesn't exist, or I'm just really blind.
Which is it?
Thanks!
Jeff

I have successfully used the I2C controlled MCP4441 and MCP4018 in my Prop projects.

digital pot ICs
For the digital pots you need to understand a little bit about the circuit, to know what voltage is being applied to the ends of the existing pot for instance. Some of the analog devices pots have a wider voltage range on the ends of the resistor, eg +/- 12v.
Exactly what I was looking for..
