GPS Guidance System

I'm currently working on a GPS datalogger that I'm modifying into a gps guidance system (it displays the direction from the current coordinates to the coordinates entered with the matrix keypad). It uses a PMB-688 GPS module, 2 paralleled 9V batteries, a 4x4 matrix keypad, 2x16 Backlit LCD display, and a homemade direction-displaying module consisting of 7 LEDs driven by a 74HC595N serial-to-parallel shift register. I hope to enter it into the Hack the Halls contest.

I now have the schematic drawn up for the LED module, and hope to complete the actual board by the end of the day

For the Christmas season, it's going to be programmed to lead it users (the three Wisemen) to Bethlehem so they can visit the Baby Jesus. I also have some updated photos of the device too!

Looks very cool, and oddly practical (or at least I imagine that wise men might find it so).

Sweet! Is that a 3 to 8 line decoder driving your directional LEDs? I used one in a 7-LED display, for only one LED on or all off.

sure is, it saves having to use eight pins just for the leds (considering that another eight are used for the keypad)
