Basic Stamp USB port ID problem

My BOE, USB Basic Stamp Editor ID, Port Status comes back "invalid port" on Com 4. In the beginning, two months ago, I could change my USB cable to the other USB port, COM 3, and the editor would recognize my board. Last week, that procedure stopped working, so I re-seated the chip, Ver 2.5, and the editor would recognize my board in USB port COM 4. Now, that procedure STOPPED WORKING after a half dozen re-seatings! Please help! :tongue::tongue:

    Is your Stamp softeare set to scan all ports?

    Yes, Com 3 thru 7 are displayed with Com 4 always dislpayed "invalid port."

    The last time I had this issue I had to uninstall and reinstall the USB Port. For some reason that worked. Do you have another stamp for testing, just in case?

    No, I don't have another stamp. How do I re-install my USB port? I have Vista OS.

    Leave the USB cable plugged in. Go in to Device manager and select the USB Prolific or whatever brand it is device and select uninstall and make sure you choose to uninstall drivers.

    Are you using the Parallax FTDI driver? Follow instructions here: http://www.parallax.com/ProductInfo/Accessories/USBDrivers/tabid/530/Default.aspx
