Parallax is having a Thanksgiving sale too. The Propeller proto board is on sale. I bought one last year and made a robot controller with it and a sn754410ne. The Propeller backpack is on sale for $29 which is a good little board.
I've noticed this daughter board which I'm wondering if it works with the Propeller backpack :

That plus the backpack could make a really neat controller for a mini robot.
