    My code goes here

If you go advanced in the editor then highlight your code with the mouse and click on the Hash tool (code) this will wrap your code in the correct tags, when you submit your reply it will appear in the code window

Go into Advanced mode and scroll down to the "Additional Options" section. There is a button labeled "Manage Attachments"

BTW, there is a special forum where you can do experiments with test postings and no one will complain.
    Its called Test Forum.

The handling of line numbers is the job of the program text editor. The line numbers themselves don't normally exist in the file itself. They're created for display purposes and can be printed. There may be an option to include line numbers in the "copy" operation. I can't say I've ever seen such an option, but some editors could have one.

You can change the font of some of the code if you want to point out some portion to others. I often use bold or red text.

It can be hard to read long sections of code on the forum.

I think Mike Green's frequent suggestion, to only post short sections of code within the forum text and attach the file of longer code, a good suggestion.

Not only do people not complain, but sometimes (esp. on a slow day) you get unsolicited and livelier replies than from the main forum!
