Relentless Rain!!!

Well, Here in the great Northwest it is that time of the year again. Torrential rain is now falling and is so hard that I keep losing my Satellite reception!!! It seems to be almost like clock work. The week of Thanksgiving, no matter when it is always seems to bring rain and in the valleys lots of flooding. I remember several years ago being stuck on I5 on my way home from work. All but one of 4 lanes on the freeway were flooded. Took me 4 hours to go 10 miles. After the flooding subsided they found an unfortunate guy in the ditch who had run off the freeway and drown there.

Sorry to hear that. Don't hate me, there's relentless sun & heat here in LA. Just ran 5 miles at lunch.

    I love LA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0b5LzCOc98E#t=48s :)

Yea, I myself prefer quieter parts of CA. The NW has been good to me since moving from Montana in 1987. Shortly before the economic meltdown of 2008 we had planned a move to Phoenix. Had a house picked out, business loan lined up and all. Good thing we did not make the move as opening a business in Phoenix at the time would have been disastorous!!! Any how, up here we live for our AWESOME summers once it finally hits around mid July!!!! We do not "wait" for it to stop raining to get things done, otherwise nothing would get done!!!

Yea, but did you view the video??? Beverly Hillbilly's said it best. " California is the place you oughta be". I would like to retire to a place where it is quiet, ocean, mountains and 80 degrees year round. No volcanoes or earthquakes to worry about. Any suggestions? No, not East Coast either!!!!

On a bicycle trip from Vancouver to LA, my bike broke in the middle of the Hoh rain forest in WA. Thought I was hosed, but in the next 24 hours, I met the nicest people in the world. Hitched a ride back to Forks (yes, I was there long before Twilight made it famous) in someone's giany cushy RV, and met Joe Gaydeski, who welded my bike back together, and Sean (?) at the only bike shop in town fixed the bike and got me back on the road. No one would take a penny for their help.

Maybe the weather is spotty, but the People of the Northwest ROCK!

Yea, we kind of do!!! Even though Forks got famous from Twilight the movies are actually done in Oregon. Forks is not much of a town at all. To top it off, if you happen to take any of the back roads you end up in what looks to be peoples personal dumping grounds. The drive down 101 through the mountains is absolutely awesome though.

Edit: If you ever get up around Sequim, make sure to visit the Animal Farm. They have bears that wave to you as you throw them bread. You drive through and feed all sorts of animals. I believe Gentle Ben ue to be housed there. They also house a large number of the animals used in Disney movies. The kids absoltely love that place!!!

Even though it's relentlessly nasty out, my kayaks are still getting some use:

When I lived in Newport, Oregon I complained that there was an awful lot of rain one spring. The locals just smiled and said that sometime summer never comes. It just keeps on raining.

    Maybe, it will never stop......

Count your blessings, PhiPi. We city folk have to go to the zoo to see wildlife like that, and my girls got "tram stamped" in the process! http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?143759-Three-happy-Birthdays!-erco-Hippy-Enrique&p=1141868&viewfull=1#post1141868

    What's a zoo??

@Loopy. My wife and I have on 2 occassions spent our anniversary on the Oregon coast and Tillamook. Have also taken a couple "roadntrips" down there. Newport is AWESOME when the sun does come out!!!! A picture on a calendar of Haystack rock is what first drew me there!!!

When I first drove a '66 Rambler full of my worldly possessions out here to the NW, and after looking around a bit, I decided my new home would be either Newport, OR, Bellingham, WA, or Port Townsend. I ran out of gas money in Port Townsend. 'Turned out to be a lucky break. :)

(It's pouring rain again after a starry night. Why can't it be clear during the day?)

I have lived Northeast of Seattle, most of my life.

I love the rain! It falls FREE from the sky, some people bottle it, and sell it for more than the price of gasoline. Now that is the height entrepreneurship!

I have seen many people move to the Northwest, stay for two dark and gloomy rainy seasons, and then move back from whence they came. Then, after paying high prices for water again, they return to really enjoy and learn to live with the rain.

A good roof, car port, rain jacket, and umbrella, is all that is needed.

That reminds me, I have to repair two broken pop-up sprinkler heads this weekend. That's MY Black Friday in LA.

Truth be known, when I moved here from Indiana's miserable climate, winter, spring, and summer were pleasant surprises. Gone are the heat and stifling humidity of July and August. Banished to a dim memory is the bitter cold of December and January. And spring lasts longer-- much longer -- than one too-brief week. (Eat your heart out, idbruce. :) ) I'll take the rain, thanks, and promise not to grouse too much about the winter darkness at this higher latitude. (Okay, the Midwest has nice autumns; I'll give it that.)
