Ideas on a light controler???

I'm trying to make a device to turn a light on and off slowly (like the power indicator on an apple computer). Lighthouse light simulation.
I want to use a BS to control an interface circuit to drive a 120V AC lamp. I would like it simple and robust.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
What I'm looking for is advice on the interface circuit. I know stamps but would like info on building a circuit to take a 0-5V DC and control the out put of a 120VAC light.

In order to vary the brightness of the lamp you would need a triac-based circuit which could adjust the duty cycle of the 120VAC. The BASIC Stamp isn't going to be able to to easily do this directly, however you could create a circuit that does it based on data from the BASIC Stamp. You could then monitor the 0-5VDC using an ADC connected to the BASIC Stamp Module. An ADC0831 would be very easy to implement.
