I have had two security incidents around my house late at night in the last few days. I feel very threatened. I want to implement some detection/response very quickly. Any ideas from the community greatly appreciatred

Leon, Broke into my car in the driveway and stole early morning delivery of milk/groceries. I am thinking kids looking for drug cash.

Have you thought about motion detection lamps, say on the porch or garage (sorry, don't know your layout)? They can be somewhat of a deterrent, and can be installed at existing fixture locations.

My other thought would be a wireless webcam.

I've never tried this particular unit myself, but Home Depot sells motion detectors of this sort:

    http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100654443/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=motion+detector&storeId=10051#.UKOddo66DrI

There are other types, too, of course. No special electronics knowledge is needed to hook them up.

...call the police and log a complaint, if haven't done so already.

    I recently purchased:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NXCLKE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Easy to set up, and they do work.

I got this 4 channel DVR combo.
$189 sale with catalog source code: B208AK (limited time)
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/82-14475 Add $10 to get free shipping

Added a 500GB harddrive (sata) I hade laying around, for weeks of recording.
Got the android app MEye so I can view in real-time from anywhere on my GalaxyIII phone.
another app that is good: tinyCam Monitor

I gonna hock up the door-bell line to the open drain alarm input (through a transistor)
so I get a phone TXT when someone rings bell as the bad guys do that first to see if someone is home.
Fedex guys also ring bell before leaving packet by the door and one of my cameras is monitoring that area.

You could just have the software send you an email clip when motion is detected. If the text contains no video what good is it if they get your "hidden in the attic" DVR?

    I don't want email/txt eveytime someome walks in/out the door (I don't live alone)
The DVR is mounted on a metal plate that flips up and locks in place, pretty hard to steal.

Consider getting a dog. Thieves are reluctant to bother with a house that has a dog. While neighbors might ignore an alarm, they might pay more attention to a dog. And of course, the dog might attack someone that breaks in. And if the dog is barking, someone in the house might let it out to confront the thief.

I think its best that you hire any security monitoring company in your area that will help you in monitoring your home security when you are out of home.As well as while you are sleeping. And if you don't have more money than try any alarm system that will help you for getting quick response.

I use signs picked up at gun shows (I've been to two) that describe all manner of horrible maiming and mutilation for those breaking and entering my home. The ones I like - "Gun control means using both hands" and "I don't do warning shots!"

Then there's my favorite "Magnum 357 Security. Any survivors will be prosecuted"
