BulkBuy#1: Serial Wifi Modules - Arrived at shop - video - shipped!!

I've been shopping China lately and salivating over the deals that are possible if ordering in Bulk.

I'm proposing a little experiment... (I've cleared this with KenG and Paypal, so we're green light.)

I've found some nice Serial TTL to Wifi Modules (manuall) which I can purchase in Bulk. This time we'll try for 10 units.

Here's how it works: (Think "Kickstarter")

You purchase 1 or more of these using the "Buy it Now" button on the product page.
There is a time limit (and countdown clock) to get the 10 required "Buy It Now" orders. Once the 10 orders are achieved, I'll place the order for the bulk purchase and then ship them to you once they arrive at my shop. If we don't achieve the required order amount by the deadline, I'll log into my Paypal account and hit the "Refund" button on all orders within 24 hours of passing the deadline and we'll try again with something more interesting down the road. (I had a long talk with Paypal about this today, and we're in the clear to do this.)

I want one of these for me, so I'll be order #1. We only need 9 more of you to participate.

Shipping to an US address is included. If you want one of these outside of the US, please contact me before ordering to make arrangements for the additional costs of shipping.

Here's the product:

http://propellerpowered.com/shop/?page_id=1174

I've priced these on some of the common website sources and found this to be around $5-$10 savings against any source I'd trust to ship these in.

    A few lines there allude to it being able to do Ethernet as well as WiFi. Any more details available? Do you have a command set for it?

    and Paul found a glitch in my system! (and got charged $4.00 additional dollars because of the way the shipping is setup in our system. Emailed you Paul)

    I've adjusted the price down 4 dollars. When the shipping charge is applied it will now total $39.99 as it should.

    That's 2 of 10.

    I noticed that. Perhaps you could surprise me with $4 worth of stuff from the Bargain Basement?

    EDIT: got your email - if we don't reach 10 unit sale threshold then it becomes a non-issue.

    If I bought a set would someone help me with connections and code?
    Sounds like fun.

    I would still want a bunch for my robots.

    Is Linux OS needed to use them?

    From the materials that are provided, I expect to be able to talk directly to them from the Propeller using FullDuplexSerial.Spin.

    As much as I want to see this a quick success and get them ordered, let's try to hold the orders to 1 or 2 per person to get a good spread of them out. Then we can all share code and enjoy them together.

    I was thinking this was similar to the unit used in Tom Cantrell's WizFi Orb

    The data sheet says WAP-PSK security .... Is that the same as WPA-PSK or WPA-Personal ?

    What is the range without an antenna?

    Has anyone tried the module? Just curious.

    Hopefully ten of us are about to find out the whole skinny on these..

    Hope it works out. I'd like a real Wifi solution that works with TCP/IP for some projects. Wired Ethernet in my house is just not practical since I gave up my dedicated IP addresses. Too busy to participate now though.

    I'm going to do some checking today to determine if our "calculated" shipping setup will cover costs for anyone ordering outside the US.
    I'm thinking we may be able to open this up to everyone later today.

    Hi Jeff;

    I'll buy two, but need them shipped to Canada. So will you then take delivery of them and forward them to me via ordinary mail in a letter sized bubble pack mailer? The customs folks seem to not bother with light/small packages through regular mail. Anything bigger gets scrutinized and frquently charged a "handling fee" eventhough there is no duty payable on electronic components. So if you can deal with that, I'd be more than happy to compensate you for your efforts.

    Cheers,

    Peter (pjv)

    @Peter

    If you'll order two of them using the "Buy It Now" button twice. You'll wind up paying about $5.00 more than my calculated cost to ship 2 of them out. (Shipping and materials) -- I'll give you the choice of being refunded $5.00 when this goes through, or adding around $5.00 of inventory at your discretion.

    It looks like with your order for 2 we'll easily hit our goal!

    Number 10 just sold. BulkBuy#1 is closed, I'll place the order tonight!

    I'll open BulkBuy#2 if there are more people here who appear to have missed this round. Post a request in this thread.

    Hi Jeff;

    I just read your response to my shipping requirements, and linked to the product page, but there is no "BUY" button for me to push twice. So does that get removed once you hit the limit ?

    What do you want me to do now, or is it all taken care of due my commitment via these posts?

    How will that satisy PayPal ?

    P.S Sorry to be complicating things.

    Cheers,

    Peter (pjv)

    @Peter in the horse-race to get 10 purchases, you came in behind the rest of the group.

    I'm going to start BulkBuy#2 as I've just placed the first order. I'll give you a PM heads up once it's in place.
