@Scope: The only bummer is that you didn't really have the down time you had imagined to get to all the projects you wanted to, like your camera slider!
The current position isn't full time so I still have more opportunities to continue pursuing either more part time work &/or a full time position . . . with a few robotic endeavors tossed in for good measure, balance.
@Scope, I'm interested to know how you will support the camera? I built a slider and cut off the top of a tripod. I then put a a long bolt inside the cut-off part and held it in place with epoxy.
I eventually found a camera supply which will sell me only the part I want.
I'll put my current projects on another forum in another thread(s) but my plan for this camera slider involves getting the job done first using a very simple approach - taking a micro tripod with a cheapo camera fitted with the PRISM shutter control --> http://www.hexpertsystems.com/prism/ The moving table will remain stationary when taking single shots - in theory, it should work great but the reality of my execution often involves crumbling dreams that remind me of those oft used words "back to the drawing board" or, in my case,"back to the CAD software" (ha)
Tomorrow (Tues, 08-Jan-2013) I start my apprenticeship at the custom automation machinery shop. They've been in business since 1973.
This doesn't involve pay but I hope to obtain valuable experience. I guess I did a good job of convincing the owner to let me help them out - I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. My first project involves reverse engineering a customer's machine that we will be repairing and also upgrading with safety components. Let's hope it goes well!
Next week the teaching opportunity begins - night classes - and that provides a paycheck, thank goodness.
I created a few "warm up's" with SolidWorks tonight . . . woo hoo!
After four days working there, they offered me a job today!!!
I'm doing CAD modeling for the world's best custom automation machinery company!!!
It's like a dream come true - I can't believe it!!!
(click on kitty to see him dance - woo hoo!!!)
I would like to thank Regina Dugan, Greg Graffin who worte the song "The Answer," and of course, everyone here who supported me in the decision to leave.
Most of all, my wife who never made me feel bad for putting our financial future on an unknown path, who always supported me, and who will always be my very best friend.
