I've used it to design some schematics and two PCB boards. I haven't actually made the PCB boards, but it was education about the challenges involved in trace routing.
Has anyone else used it?
How does fritzing compare to other board layout tool chains?
I've never done board layout,I might try this
It just comes with an Arduino, but you can import user created objects and there are libraries of them on the internet. So it is fairly general purpose.
Very clever and all. But I do my "fritzing" with pencil, paper, real components and a soldering iron.
After spending all day glued to a computer, programming, documenting, emailing etc, ect. Then far to much time hanging out on forums and glued to YouTube I really like to have something to do that is not tied to a computer.
Well, except I'm still tied to a computer for the data sheets and such, dammit.
Give me the smell of burning flux, and the heat of the iron.
Been out of the board-building for a while but last night I decided to watch some YouTube vids on SMD soldering. I guess that I was aware of the solder-paste/heat-gun existence but never paid any attention. That stuff doesn't look too bad.
Gonna download the Fritzing thing to have a go.
I have not graduated to SMD chips yet but if you search Dave Jones' EEVBlog on YouTube he shows how to do a pretty neat job of it with a regular iron. Solder braid is a must though.
In fact, for what I have tried so far it's easier and quicker to go SMD rather than mess around poking leads through holes, flipping the board repeatedly and trimming wires.
