I love the Two Guys and a Truck moving van that sheers the top off but STILL makes it all the way under the bridge and appears to keep going! I want movers that are that determined to get the job done!!! The one big camper seems to have cleared off its roof without even noticing or stopping....bet they were puzzle when they reached the campground!!
When my wife and I are on trips she'll usually hear me vent about civil engineering. They get away with stuff that no other branch of engineering does. On ramps and off ramps sharing the same lane, exits on the left and right, and lane drops without warning.
The obviously needed to excavate under the bridge to increase clearance to 13' 6" which will prevent future accidents. But I doubt that will happen because a sign is cheaper and they're always constrained by budgets.
The state of NY marks their bridges a foot lower then they should*. I have had more than one driver trainee crawling up their seat as I sailed under a 12' - 6" marked overpass while pulling a 13' - 6" trailer. Couldn't quite make it under a 12' - 4" (maybe it was a 12' - 2") - I tried, it just wouldn't fit. No damage, I was gentle.
*Note this was more than 20 years ago. It is possible that they are marked differently now.
