I've read that the spate of allergies of all kinds among children is due in part to excessive cleanliness. Getting dirty from a very early age, apparently, trains the immune system not to overreact to allergens. Having pets also helps. I can attest that my two brothers and I form three data points on the side of rolling in the dirt, snuggling with the family dog when we were kids, and remaining mostly allergy-free. YRMV.

It's true, the adverts these days are all about products to kill germs, when we were kids we were sent to parties especially to catch measles or mumps from other kids in order to gain immunity, these days it's all done with inoculations.
If you go through your early years without coming into contact with relatively harmless bacteria and allergens and don't gain immunity then later they could end up being life threatening.

I agree. I do not think I can ever recall a case of Flesh Eating bacteria hitting in the 60's. I say blame it on marketers of fear. (The Government is partly to blame also,)

I agree. I don't feel totally myself until I take an early morning swim in the local sewage treatment plant. Plus, the combination of chlorine and naturally-occurring H2S leaves my hair a shade of blonde that is the envy of everyone at the office.

Yes, who doesn't look back with longing in their hearts at the good ole days before enforced sanitation when everyone just tossed their chamber pots out onto the streets. Miniskirts are to blame, too, since women's dresses can no longer provide the mop-like inoculating action those prairie skirts were famous for.

I meant the Government is to blame for spreading a lot of the fear. Not the laws that were put in place.
