In case you missed the announcement. Parallax is now carrying a new version of the Propeller ASC+. The "rev.f" board has the new Arduino header layout and a uSD slot on the back.

Great job Martin! I've been meaning to tinker with the ones I bought from you. I swear it's on my list!!

Glad to see them in the P-lax store.

This is an excellent board Martin, and has quickly become my standard propeller board (something about having the A/D there and being able to throw an empty daughtercard just to make connections, it is very handy).

I have purchased a fairly large number of them over the last two months (just ordered two more yesterday), and I am glad to know they can be purchased at parallax. One small thing to consider, the AUX connector is very useful functionally, but cannot be used when a daughtercard is placed on top. I have now desoldered that connector and soldered a sideways connector more times than I care to think about, so consider having an option for a sideways connector.

    Martin, Nice board.

P.S. The pdf on Parallax is for Rev e

...and a uSD slot on the back.
I am not sure what the description "slot" means. I looked at the rev. f pdf, and did not notice any wiring for the uSD reader, if that is what "slot" is referring to. The other option is, "slot" - solder pads for a uSD reader if you choose to solder one on. If this has a uSD reader on board, I may have to consider this ASC board for my FTm&s project, at least for the slave board part.

    Good on ya, Martin.

    That's super, Martin.

Too bad Parallax put it under Basic Stamp. :)

I think Ray's right. These no uSD on the board?

Trust me, there is a push-in-push-out uSD slot on the back. It is not pictured in Parallax's photo.

I've sent the proper schematic to Parallax. In the mean time, you can get rev.f on the Wiki.

The original intention for the AUX connector was to provide compatibility for the Ethernet shield, which requires the top six pins for SPI. And for the KVM and VGA daughter cards which use this port while also passing through the Arduino pins unmolested. But if you're not using those items then I agree, RA pins would be much handier there. Next time you need some, drop me an email and I'll solder on a right angle header for you.

Congratulations! The ASC+ is a nice board and this new version with the SD card is even nicer!

Is the rev.f ASC+ board only going to be sold through Parallax? Since, on your site you only show a rev.e ASC+ board, will the new board become available at some later date? Congratulations, the board really looks good.

Martin, I have a couple of Rev e boards. What's the main difference besides the SD card slot on the back. Perhaps I should order a couple of more :D so I'm not the only kid on the block with an older model. :D:D

    Don't worry. I have one too! :-)

The "new" Arduino layout adds a few more pin.
SDA and SCL on the top row and IOREF and (a blank?) on the bottom row.

The aux connector is completely different.
Maybe gone and replaced with ICSP (?)

Old style shields should still fit.

Doc, you can't survive without one of these new "f'n" boards! =D

The differences, apart from the uSD socket, are the additional 4 pins Cavelamb described. (I'm not aware of any shields that utilize these extra connections at this time.) The .1" aligned row of empty pads along the top row is gone. And the attempt at using a MOSFET to switch AREF for +5v to the ADC's Vref pin has been replaced with a 741G3157 SPDT digital switch.

For now, the f boards are only through Parallax.

The AUX connector is exactly the same. The only change was the labeling from "ICSP" to "SPI". Since those top six pins were never an "In Circuit System Programming" port.

Awesome. I want one... not to use it for anything yet... just to have it.
I think this is a really good product for the community and I think it will really help spread the propeller to new users.
(Actually, I kind of want to have one just to show people that are reluctant to try the propeller because it isn't the arduino.)

I don't have an f'n version but I've had one for a long time and it is a cheap (not cheap, cost-effective and inexpensive) thrill to plug an Arduino shield into it and start writing Spin for it!

Doh! Just saw U1 uSD on the schematic. Don't know how I missed that before.

    Ah! Thanks Martin.
I didn't grok that from the site I read.

    And congratulations again.

Now, get ASCs in Radio Shack, how about?
    Wouldn't that be sweet!

Reviving old thread; but a couple questions about the MicroSD card, I just got the rev.f ASC+ board.

    1. What are the pins for D0,CLK,DI,CS for the card reader?
    2. Does it read/write uSCHD cards? That is all the local BestBuy seems to stock (16gb!). I'd hate to have to run out and find a non-HD SD card but best to know before banging my head against the wall.
