God Bless Micro Center

So.... I'm from a semi-rural (shopping deprived area) in Illinois. We have a wonderful RadioShack and that's about it. While visiting my daughter (in Chicago) and having a little time on my hands, I happened to see a Micro Center on N. Elston... and I was wondering what they might have that the TigerDirect down the street didn't. Oh Boy!!! A complete nerdist book emporium and the finest selection of Parallax products that side of my house.

They have Parallax products that even Parallax doesn't have.

I bought a propBOE board... A whole dollar cheaper than from Parallax:) And promptly burned up pin8... no problem, they have plenty more. Micro Center even has parts for the Elev8... which I am sorely tempted to buy since I really don't understand why the whole thing cant be run from a Quickstart board.

Good work Circuit City!!! and wow Parallax... that BOE board is wonderful.

Now for a complaint... where's the C3?

And a suggestion: Let's break up that X-bee package, I don't want my PC to talk to my prop... I just want my Prop to talk to my other Prop. And let's get the price down below the competition:)

Go Bears
Rich

I've never sent them any PropCAMS, so that would have to mean EOLed products. :)

We have a Micro Center on Memorial drive and they're great. I haven't checked out the Parallax stuff yet, but perhaps I should.

I have to say that a non-socketed microcontroller on a $120 board makes me nervous. Burning out pins due to accidental breadboard shorts seems possible and replacing the microcontroller isn't trivial. That is something I like about my BS2 OEM board, mistakes only cost $12. The same is true for my Propeller Platform board. This hasn't been a problem, but it is nice to have the option.

So true, but then I had my choice as to which kind of board to assault:) Micro Center also carries the dip version of the Propeller Education Kit. Normally that is what I would have used to test a new circuit... but the propBOE was just sitting there looking at me... and I thought I knew what I was doing... and ... and ... and it is only one little pin.

There is a Micro Center 70 miles west of me in Cleveland Ohio. I make it there two or three times a year and their electronic hobby parts section has grown quite a bit in the past year. My wife thinks its cheaper to order online but there is something about being there. I'll probably make the trip more if the local Radio Shack goes back to being a cell phone store. Now I just have to convince my wife the 8 hour trip to Fry's in Chicago is worth it :).

An investment in a PropBOE is an investment in one's self. For $129 you will have a living, breathing commitment to an intellectual hobby or future business endeavor between Learn.parallax.com and Parallax Semiconductor resources. You need one, Rich!

And Ken didn't mention the Lifetime Warranty that is on the product page.

We used to have a Micro Center in town, but i guess it moved out about 5 years ago. I see there is on in New York, 58 miles from me now.

    Looks like a road trip!

It has been a very long time since I was up in that neck of the woods, and this might just be a good reason to go there :)

Ken ... that is a very good idea. I'll make you a deal... set one C3 on the shelf at my Micro Center and I'll get both:)

I was really excited to see the motors, ESC's and propellers from the Elev8 sold as singles. I have wanted to do some experiments to see if I could tease out something from of the multi-sensor problem... not an Elev8 issue... a generic problem.

In the meantime, I'm making serious headway on the wobbly tire issue:)

And thank you guys for the tips on adhesives... I was about to break out my hot glue gun.

I love having quick, easy, and local access to electronic components. There's a store here that is stocked wall to wall with resistors, capacitors, coils, transistors, and every conceivable logic IC. No parallax stuff, but it's still pretty awesome. Besides, I already have a good supply of Parallax goods. :)

Just convince your wife to move to the 'burbs North of Dallas! Here in Plano I'm within 12 miles of a Microcenter and a Frys.

Parallax Products; 41 at Microcenter (plus two Propeller books in their excellent book/mags section):)
Just 4-5 at Fry's, seem to have less than they used to. :(
