Quads for the masses

I am a contract software developer currently on contract to Verizon Wireless. This is what popped up on my home page of the intranet this morning:

http://vzweb.vzwcorp.com/content/energizing-our-accessories-parrot-ardrone-20

The "Absolute Control Mode" uses you as the reference and you control it from your iphone, iPad or Android device. But, it looks like the range is only 165'!

Pretty neat little toy - $300 on Amazon.

Is that link to your company intranet or something? Doesn't load.

Well heaven forbid the end user use their eyes and brains to sort out the control directions.... sheeesshh ;)

Oops, I had both sites up and chose the wrong one to copy the link. Heater got the right one.
Like I said, a toy for the masses, but look out for a bunch of them in your neighborhood.
I bet the ELEV-8 would stomp it, though.
The thing that I was impressed with is that it comes with FPV built in - BUT only for 165' away.

The drones are coming, the drones are coming......
At least my windows don't have clear glass (it is a translucent texture).

I have a vague anxious feeling that both Taiwan and Mainland China are about to commit their military to deployment of large arrays of drones - and maybe Japan as well. These are far more than just hobby devices. Police will love peeping everywhere. Criminals will love peeping back.
