Hey everyone,

I hope you’ve had a good weekend. I’ve been working on a new project for about a year now and it’s been really hard to keep quiet. Last week the project was accepted by Kickstarter and tonight we launched it so I can finally show it to you. I call it “ScuffN” and it’s augmented musical reality. I’ll be updating this post with some more information about how it works, but until then, take a look at the videos, website, and Kickstarter project page and let me know what you think. I’ve had a blast building it and playing with it. Thanks! :)

Never done Kickstarter before, but I believe in vanmunch! I'm your first backer at a whopping $5. I'm starting slow, 'cuz if Kickstarter is as addictive as Ebay, I'm a dead man.

Of course, my big robot project may end up on Kickstarter yet. Will advise.

    Go Dave Go!

Hey erco, thanks! I know what you mean by "addictive". We backed two projects the first night we set-up our account. :) And yes, please keep us updated on your robot project!!

    Dave,

Very cool! It looks like your past year has been well spent. I guess I need to go raid the piggy bank!!

Hey thanks mindrobots! I didn't mention this on the website or the Kickstarter page but if anyone wanted to, ScuffN is super easy to hack. You can see in the pictures that the programing port is right there and all you need is a propclip. :) Anyhow, I figured everyone here would like that. :)

Sounds like fun! I'm in! I take it that it just plays samples off of the SD card. Any chance it could be modified to generate sounds using something like SIDcog and maybe some algorithmic composition software? Also, how big is your EEPROM? I'm asking because I'm wondering if it might be possible to use Propeller C or Catalina running code from the high part of EEPROM. Even better would be SPI flash but I don't imagine you included that on your board. Care to post a schematic?

Hey David thanks! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. I'll make sure that I use 64K for the EEPROM. I don't think there's really a difference in cost.

I'm not familiar with SIDcog so I don't know how it will work out, but I'm sure you could do some great stuff with it.

I'll make sure to post a list with the different pin connections once the project is finished.

    Have fun!

David's up to $425, let's keep the ball rolling. This is exciting to follow along with. Has anyone else here done Kickstarter?

Hey erco, thanks! Ya, it's all about getting the word out, submitting to tech sites, music forums... ect. We really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions on how to get the word out. It will be fun to see how it continues to develop with everyone's help. :)

David's is one of many neat projects on KS. First, sponsor him at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1260445854/scuffn-augmented-musical-reality

then check out this $3K SLA machine which is OVERFUNDED already: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/formlabs/form-1-an-affordable-professional-3d-printer

OK, we're stalled at $355 since high gas prices were cutting into people's budgets. Now that they've peaked and will be declining soon, let's get David's project back on track!

Ha Ha :). Thanks erco! I've heard that gas is ~$4.50 in California. It's about $3.70 here ouch!

We should be getting a story in the local paper this week and another in the Universities' student paper (~30k students) so hopefully that will help move the needle. I've also submited it to a couple of the normal websites that normally pick up my stuff, but no dice this time. Oh well, if at first you don't succeed ... keep trying !! :) we still have about 23 days to make the magic happen :)

Also a big thanks to Parallax for making scuffN "project of the week" Thanks guys!

October 30 deadline is approaching fast and Dave still needs funding. If everyone buys one less bag of Halloween candy and redirects those funds... The kids will understand ! :)
