I got in to Tesla Coils in 9th Grade in HS ....
just to put in scale . that one coil I have linked was powered by a Pole Xfmr I bought from KVA effects the World leader in HV EFX .

amazing one is not a bad Place but some I know in the TC community have had some rather bad experiences with them 5-7 years ago ..
and the Kits are not that Great ,,, you can do so much better for less with local parts .

Erco You are SO lucky to be in So Cal . KVA is in torrance .. so is my mentor Dale Hall whom is record holder in TC eff . with a 9 V he can put out a rather long30-40 inch spark ....

Ah erco, you'd love this one... This is at the Frys store in Concord. You can see my reflection in the glass. I'm about 6 feet tall for an estimate of size.

Excellent. Finally a source for the 2000 volt PSU I need for my WWII vintage 7" radar display CRT.

skylight Information Unlimited is the place I bought my first laser, a 1mw helium neon laser kit in 1982. Had a blast with that thing at the drive-in theaters during intermission. (remember drive-in theaters?)

    Peter,

Not the TC but the MINIMAX3. http://www.amazing1.com/hv-hf-power-supplies.htm#minimax3

Not sure if it does what I want yet though, I just need a handfull of millamps at an adjustable 1KV to 2KV. Any ideas? I'd quite like to make my own if possible.

As Halloween approaches, I have to dust off my Jacob's Ladder. Now that one will knock you on your butt if you touch it. Small, ~20,000V neon transformer, rods are ~ 18" long, works great. One of my greatest disappointments in life is that the Jacob's Ladder spark will not ignite hair spray or WD-40 for a flamethrower. Ah well, it's probably best to keep that pressurized aerosol can far away from that spark.

I don't know if it was intentional but the two windows either side look like wings giving the illusion of an angel especially if you look at the thumbnail, very spooky!
