I went to www.phanderson.com to look for an LCD backpack there for another member, and found nothing.
I saw a line near the top of that page that Peter had died at 66 on September 19th.
It's very sad.
Peter was an educator and a Stamp afficionado aficionado, and I'm sure well-known to many here.
Thought that you'd like want to know.

Awe. 66 seems young. I'm sure he will be missed.

Thanks PJ - I was not aware.

I'd visited Mr. Anderson's site a number of times and found useful information and links.

And yes, doggiedoc - 66 is WAY to young!

RIP. Thanks for the head's up PJ

Back in the day Prof. Peter was a regular here on these forums. He wrote a couple of tutorial books on using the BASIC Stamp 1 & 2, but he also delved into other processors. He must have had a wonderful program there at Morgan St. U., guiding his students to make useful projects that could have a wide appeal and some of which he made available as products for sale or tutorials on the web site. For example, there were external PIC chips to extend the capabilities of the Stamp.

I see there is still a lot of his material available at http://www.phanderson.com/, alongside the message that "I have taken much of his stuff off the website until we have a better handle on what and where his stock is." It would be a shame for that particular online legacy to disappear. It is a hazard of that aspect of cyber-existence. That is a small thing. My condolences go out to his family and friends who will miss his free spirit and his presence.

Condolences to his family for their loss.

Condolences to anyone who's a fan of his work too. I really liked his lcd 117 chip and I hope it lives on after him.

Sorry to hear this. His web site has provided a lot of very helpful information. I guess the Internet has reached a level of maturity where we do occasionally loose a favorite website due to contributors dying.

It has seemed like a young brave new world for so long.

These days 66 just barely qualifies you for 100% Social Security Benefits.

    Sad news..

Peter set me up with my first microcontroller kit, a picaxe 08. The community has suffered a real loss. Condolences to his family.

Ughhh, I hate to hear this! My prayers go out to his family. I bought from his site several times and he stuck me as kind & generous. One time he threw in an extra chip for no extra cost.
    RIP

Indeed, the obituary spells out the guy I remember as well. One value he brought to the Morgan students was exposure to the latest electronic sensors, microcontrollers and projects. I have the impression that the access to these tools was really low before he ran the program, and that the students were fortunate to have his support. I think he has a similar background to Jerry Mouser (founder of www.mouser.com), a physics professor that started a small "business" to provide his students with the parts they needed. I'm pretty sure that Peter also had the students keep the kits on the shelves and that's how he offered them at cost. It's been quite some time since we exchanged messages.

Reading his web pages shows that he was very active with the BS2 back in 1998, making his own low-cost starter kit.

Rest in peace and you will be missed, Mr. Anderson.

I'm so sad to hear this. Years ago, I experimented with the BASIC Stamp material and tutorials he provided. I hope his online information and books can survive. I also hope we can find new ways to extend the quality of human life. Leaving this Earth at age 60s is much too young.
