    That's OK, unlike Algol, Pascal, Ada and other languages that like to be able to compile themselves the Perl run time is written in C. (Well, at least I believe it is.) You are just using C indirectly:)

    PL/1 got a mention, "so 80's". I know someone who is working in PL/1 today, for the the Finnish state pensions system.
    Only the second person I ever met that programms in PL/1.
