In 25 years both Chip and Ken will have retired, and Parallax will have been sold to some company in India. Who knows what they will be selling.

If Parallax's development follows Moore's law there will be a Prop with 4000 times as many transistors as the P2. That would translate to a chip with 32,000 cogs, with a total of about 8 MB of cog RAM. The hub RAM would be about 500 MB in size.

Matt will have a small business in the back making custom plywood storage enclosures for relay collectors.

Chip will have perfected the tortilla maker and retired to Finland where he opens a Tango school.

Ken will taken over the world with his STEM trained cadre of robot engineers and their Robot army. He revolutionizes government by actually listening and providing to the needs of the citizen and being concerned about their needs.

Parallax is under the control of the Gracey kids which based on their track record can't be a bad thing!!

That thread will have more than 500,000 posts, with the same arguments being recycled every four pages. :)

So if I did the math right, walnuts generate a gross revenue of $3000/acre versus $600/acre for a wheat farm. I think I need to convince my brothers and sisters to plant a few walnut trees on our family farm in Kansas. :)

Interesting observation. The walnuts seem like they would also be less labor intensive than planting/harvesting wheat...on the down side, it will take several years to establish a producing walnut grove.

...and once you have the robot squirrels up and running, your losses to ground fall would be very small.

25 years, I don't know. But within five years I'd expect an ARM Stamp - maybe LPC1114-based.

As far fetched as it sounds, I think bio-based processors will be in play within 25 years. Perhaps Heater was right: Parallax will be selling smart nuts. That curiously fits in with ElectricAye's speculation, too. :)

In all honesty, asking a question about technology in 25 years is rather a deep subject. The rapid expanse of technology that we see today means we can only truly gauge about 10 years into the future.

However, in 25 years I will be 65, so I will get to spend much more time with Parallax products as I will finally be retired. When I do, here is what I think I will get to play with:

Steller-Fi: An interplanetary wireless module designed for low power communications that is linked to my 9th generation Stingray that is cruising around the Moretus crater on the moon. (Don't you have one of your robots on the moon by now?)

Luna-Pos: A receiver for the Lunar based GPS system for tracking my Stingray.

DiLi-Po Battery pack: The Dilithium crystal based power pack for the Stingray.

The Parallax solar panel kit will be a bigtime seller since solar will be the number one worldwide source of energy. Nuclear is old school and natural gas has been exhausted.

Even trying to predict 5 years out in the world of embedded systems and micro-controllers is difficult. All I can see is that Parallax will still be around and selling stuff.

What if it follows Chip's Corollary? "Produce something great every 7 years."

Indeed! ...A BoeBot we can fly to work or school for transportation. Those who prefer to drive closer to the ground can go about in the giant stabilized S29 hovercraft.

Depends on what type of natural gas you are referring to.

The bad news: None of us will quite make it another 25 years (2037), since Russian scientists have "proven" that the Apophis asteroid hits Earth in 2036 and kills all life.

The good news: Parallax's new home robotic telescope will sell briskly prior to Doomsday, automatically tracking the planet-destroying "bogie". Also, since the asteroid hits on April 13, don't sweat your income tax return!
