Half-Height VGA_text driver?

Some might remember bagger's tv_text half-height driver.

Did anyone ever work out a similar configuration for vga_text? I'm looking for a budget-memory vga_text driver that will support a few more rows/cols

I think kuroneko posted some nice drivers that allow per-character coloring and high resolution...

My "nostalgic" driver can be modified to support 8x8 font instead of 8x16. Then it will be 80x60 chars. It has 600 independent color tiles (20x30 tiles) available.

FWIW, another incarnation of an 80x60 (8x8) VGA driver. Colour selection is palette based (16 fg/bg colours).
