No Propeller chip found on any serial port - Constantly

I have been using a propeller chip for awhile now, but I have one big problem that has never been fully resolved.

Why do I always get the error message "No Propeller chip found on any serial port" if I have not connected my board to my computer for more than a week?

Why am I getting this message at all?

I have used the following boards:

Propeller Professional Development Board

Propeller Education Kit - 40 pin DIP Version

I have had successful connections for about a week at a stretch, and then I come back after a few days and nothing. I have updated the drivers, I've re-installed Propeller Tools, I've put in fresh batteries, unplugged, re-plugged, re-booted, made sure it's plugged in. nothing.

What do you guys do to get consistent connections to your propellers?

I am using Win7, with either the PDB or PEK.

I am using a USB hub. does that affect it?

Thank you

Make sure you have latest FTDI drivers. Something you may have installed could have broken things. The toughest one to connect isn't the PDB or PEK, it is prop board of education whose chipset doesn't work with USB v3 ports. That said - when i have this problem it is usually because I haven't supplied separate power to the board or I forgot to turn on the board.

    Good luck!

Apparently, not all wall warts are the same. I used a different one with more Amps, and now I can get my PDB to respond.

    Hi sjogan.

It is possible You used one with reversed polarity and that destroyed V-Regulator (5V)
