Disney, Looney Tunes, and Hanna-Barbera long ago decided that three fingers and a thumb are enough. Now, Sandia National Laboratories apparently agrees:

    Yes, the pinky finger is over-rated. It gets in the way when trying to drink from a teacup. Even the robot hand used only 1 or 2 fingers for some things. However, it would be painful for a human to fold back the unused fingers the way the robot hand did. :)
