These are some screen shots of Adafruit's 2.0" composite tv monitor ($40)

The driver board fits within the monitor footprint (so can be double sided taped to the back)

Too big to fit in a matchbox, but only just!

Looks pretty nice and the price is good.

Just seems such a waste to have that big board to convert NTSC to pixel data...
Only reason it works is that China can make boards and chips for next to nothing...

Agreed it's a shame to still need a conversion board, but it does save many pins on the Prop, which I'm coming to appreciate.

It's hardly a large board (1.25" wide), and it runs of 5v or 12v, with a single button to step through the 10 or so brightness settings

Might have to order the 1.6" version, it's got a reasonable chance of fitting in a matchbox

Don't you drop resolution going to 1.6"? Seems you'd like to have at least 240 vertical lines...

Actually I think it's the horizontal that goes down from 640 to 480 dots, both still have 240 lines.

Really have to try it to see how legible it is, though I was happy enough with the legibility of the 2.0"

(Also its a 1.5" screen rather than 1.6"... my mistake)
