Source code (or an text) pre-processor?

Anyone know of a general purpose pre-processor that uses conditional-compiling-type directives to simply generate a text file?

I seem to remember having such a thing during my QuickBASIC programming days.

Cheers!

I use the m4 macro-processor for that sort of thing.

Thanks guys but I was just looking for a simple utility, like a single file? VB is a big clunky thing that I won't go near and when I downloaded m4 and saw like a zillion files included, I just hit delete...LOL!

Time to fire-up the old PowerBASIC I guess :)

m4 consists of a single, small, executable file.
