GPS RXM-SG GPS Module w/Ext Antenna

Hi,


I found the RXM-SG GPS Module w/Ext Antenna on the parallax website.


I want to use a gps module, but when I look on the web it seems that GPS indoors in not that simple.
I need it for the robot I am building for mapping a space with obstacles and make a display of it on my laptop.


Does anyone has some expirence with the use of gps and compass modules indoors?

The compass module won't be an issue inside, however the GPS is another story. Even if the GPS worked inside it would still be off a few meters, rendering your mapping idea useless. One of the best options for indoor navigation is the Microsoft Kinect. The EDDIE platform uses this for more advanced robotic maneuvering.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. It seems great but is quite expensive...
I wanted to work further with my stingray/propeller robot, but I guess what I want to build is not possible with that kind of hardware. :-(

Hi! I see what your trying to do. You may want to try the Ping sensor. The ping sensor can be used just like a radar and help map out indoors. If your trying to get a GPS fix on it as well, just hope that there is a widow that lets your GPS receive at least 3 satellites. Then all you have to do is use some scaling to find the other GPS fix.
