Ham Radio, electronics and youth

I want to again thank Ken and staff for the amazing expo recently. My 7 year old daughter became interested in electronics more and as of tonight, passed her Technician exam for her Ham Radio License. We have many years of electronics ahead of us.

When I was a kid, ham radio was the only outlet available for my electronics interest. But kids today are inundated with a variety of opportunities to experiment and tinker, and ham radio sometimes takes a backseat to those other "distractions." As a consequence, the ham fraternity is aging rapidly, and a lot of hands-on knowledge and experience is being lost as those lights fade and sputter out. On my occasional visits to local ham club events, I'm more often than not the youngest person there, and I'm 63! 'Scary, isn't it? It's a hobby that deserves more youthful participation, especially with all the new digital communication modes being hatched and experimented with.
Good on ya for supporting your daughter's interest!
