Czech Tech University, to be precise... Another country's hat gets tossed into the ring of "forefront of robotics research". Sure they invented the word robot, but who's really on top is anyone's guess. Korea? Japan?

Not positive about robotics, but Czech is a lovely country with beautiful women and many great beers. That's enough for me!

And if you've never seen Kutna Hora, the bone church, yikes... http://youtu.be/1dDr7EN_SR4

My mother was from Czechoslovakia. I've spent many wonderful summer vacations there as a child, and have very fond memories of it. My grandparents lived in a small village call Podhradi (Which translates more or less to "beneath the castle"), which, as the name implies is a village on a hill with the ruins of castle named Lichnice on top. Picture: http://www.oblibene.org/userdata/shopimg/zeleznehory-hm/image/gener/big/hrad-lichnice-nadhera-tremosnice-22895.jpg

Kostnice is the name bone church (kost means bone. I guess nice means church? heh) which is located in the town of Kutna Hora. It's definitely a strange way to honor victims of the Bubonic plague.

I definitely agree with you that there are many beautiful women there, an unusual amount actually. Being of Czech descent, I should be ashamed to admit that I prefer hefeweizens, and Belgian pale ales, though.

It is somewhat shocking to me that they are quite competent when it comes to technology, given that they're a relatively small country that had a late start due to communism.

    markaeric,

you have to look at the politics more deeply there - after that whole russian/eastblock-thing went down they actualy REPLACED their whole goverment (wich was eastblock-like OLD) against YOUNG people. Not all but most. The average age of their 'leadership' is 35 not 65.

Czechoslovakia made - IMO - the best progress of all of them, possible because of that.

I moved from West-Berlin, Germany (where I am born) to the US of A in 2006 so I was there to watch all that coming down of Russia and those interesting times which followed after it.

That as it happened, got young, and honest? people to power - and they made some smart decisions on education and internet accesss.

And that is the reason why they are like you said

    .

And...YES... they are a unproportional huge amount of good looking woman in Czechoslovakia.

But we here in America can compete with that. At least at PARALLAX ...

    Enjoy!

Also Istanbul. Yes, I'm serious. I saw a disproportionate number of supermodel-like ladies on the streets of Istanbul. Less so outside Istanbul, but in general the Turkish people I met in my wanderings were some of the friendliest people I have ever met.

My all-time favorite! I can't find Eidelweiss Hefetrub (Austrian) anymore so I have sampled many, trying to find something as good. Trader Joe's "Bavarian Hefeweisen" is pretty darn tasty.
