I think it's funny they call it a "hamburger" speaker amplifier. I actually need a speaker w/amplifier for a project, but the Veho is too big and I'm afraid of damaging it if I dismantle it, so I may actually order this.

    Hey micro,

I think those pink things are Veho speakers.

You may be wrong, Phil. I think it's a ripoff because it lacks the "Veho360" logo printed over the USB port. There is also a URL to the Veho site printed on the bottom of the device that is clearly missing. Besides that, it is almost completely identical. Also, I don't see how they could sell a $20 speaker for $1 ($4 with shipping) and make any sort of profit.

They might be surplus items left over from a special promotion that couldn't be sold through regular channels. In that case, "profit" would be a lesser concern than limiting losses. I suspect that whoever made these -- if not Veho -- also manufactures the Veho speakers as a private-label item.

If the Veho's sell for $20 they probably cost about $5 to manufacture... Still $5 will give a lot better quality than $1 - they will be clones and probably fail to handle high output levels as well. But what do you expect from a pink hamburger???

I would bet that they're the same speaker as the Veho inside and out. They were probably produced for a special promotion, such as Breast Cancer Awareness or somesuch. The promoters may have ended up with too many of them and need to blow them out the doors for a dollar to cut their losses.

I find it funny that they have very specific dimensions for everything, then under "shape", they just have the phrase "Like a hamburger".

    @erco: same here!

Of Yahoo's Ten Gadget Picks, the $25 Rock-It 3.0 Speaker might give the Veho hamburger speaker a run for its money.

Wouldn't two pink Vehos make a great set of earings?

I think my search for a special anniversary present for my wife may be over. I might need something to go with the Veho earrings since I want this year's present to be as good as last year's present (a Roomba).

I'm trying to remember what the material is supposed to be used for the 20 year anniversary present. It's pink plastic, isn't it?

XLNT idea and a perfect fit. According to http://www.findgift.com/anniversary-table , the category for a traditional 20th anniversary gift is China, and these are DEFINITELY from China.

And your wife will be the first to sport these earrings, unless Jessica beat you to it. IIRC, she was wearing PhiPi's "learn to solder" S2s pretty quick.

Congrats and Happy Anniversary, Smart Guy!

Throw in the Harbor Freight bug zapper tennis racket (also China) and you will be THE MAN!

Edit: Per that gift chart, a 15th anniversary gift should be crystal. You DID give her a cat's whisker & galena crystal, yes? :)http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?141183-Define-Argentiferous-NO-GOOGLING!

Order your Batman speaker now, before the movie comes out, and you'll be a trendsetter instead of a follower. I done warned you, Baby Boyz!

For $6.75? Yeah, I'm sure the BatmanTM branding franchise gets their cut of royalties from those sales [wink, wink]!

My blue Veho speaker arrived in record time (exactly 7 days from purchase; I LOVE LA) and is very nice! I'll have to open up my real Veho speaker (take it out of package, not gut it) to compare 'em side by side.

Dang it! I stocked up on hamburger speakers and now APPLE speakers are all the rage! What's next, Twinkie or calzone speakers? Anything with large internal volume, I guess. Maybe a pair of pear speakers for stereo...

Even better than Veho/hamburger (both are mono)! My latest Ebay score today, the "Music Angel" is a USB-lithium-rechargeable STEREO speaker with a built-in MP3 player. Speakers on both ends. Plug in a micro SD card with music, or plug the 1/8" stereo jack into something you love. Small, sturdy, good heft, loud, great sound, all for $8.35, free ship!

That "Music Angel" works GREAT as a standalone stereo MP3 player, besides plugging into another MP3 player or sound source. Great sound in a hard metal case, it reminded me a bit of Radio Shack's tiny vaunted Minimus die-cast metal speakers back in the 80's. Would also work well built into a project or even use as a robot chassis...

Of course when I saw this even larger version with an FM tuner I had to order it. Um, for the twins. They need it for their preschool music. Yeah, that's the ticket! It's all for the twins!

So somebody DOES read my long, rambling, self-serving diatribes...! :)

Glad to hear you like it, I'm quite pleased with the sound output. I'm waiting to receive the longer version now, it's going to become a robot chassis.

The BIG BOY arrived, over twice as long as the medium sized ones, and it does have better sound. I'm amassing a collection of these things, now the twins each have their own MP3 players, just one slide switch and their music plays... nice! Pic attached. In summary, these are all standalone MP3 players from Ebay with internal rechargeable batteries, they also double as amplified speakers; the big one and small ones also have FM radios built in. Smallest ones (~$5-6) are mono with xlnt sound have an LCD readout with fake moving graphic equalizer display. Medium (~$8) & big one (~$11) are stereo, very nice sound output. They all provide fairly loud sound.

The medium and large would provide enough room inside to build a project inside. Might even make a decent robot chassis. :)

    erco-recommended!

FM station frequency, or MP3 track with animated but (I think) bogus graphic equalizer display. Basic info. So that small unit has a mono speaker on one side and the display on the other. The others have no display but 2 speakers for stereo.
