Hi folks,
Today only!! The Google homepage has the world's longest covered bridge featured, and its a short drive away from my home and the northern end of I-95.

Very COOL! An above ground tunnel!

The covered bridge was popular in eastern North America. The chief advantage was to reduce maintenance due to bad weather. (that's why this one is still going strong at 111 years)Ironically, it was often necessary to spread snow on the inside of the bridge in winter to allow the big horse-drawn sleds to get through.
Our small province used have the highest concentration of covered bridges anywhere. They have gradually been replaced so there's less than 100 left now.
A famiy friend documented each one back in the 1950's and 60's and her collection is in our provincial museum archives.
