Pushing it to these extremes is a 1,650 Kv Traxxas Big Block Brushless electric motor, powered by two rechargeable 3-cell, 5,000 mAh lithium-polymer battery packs.
The article said 3.5 hp for the motor

Maybe long blades and slower(ish) rotation would work. The guys from MadLabs had a photography rig they said could fly something like 30 pounds for 7 minutes, I started thinking about more blades, and increasing length. Of course, maneuverability decreases, but for applications like photography increased stability is more desirable.

That's some lifting capability! Craft would have to be four feet in diameter to handle the props.
I think there's a misprint in the spec - 4.8ohm should be 4.8 milliohm!!!
4 of those would, erm, "pull quite hard"... No load current of 11A says it all! I'll see you and raise to 20kW: motor at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXI5d0Aws0Y
I'm not sure I know of any place within reasonable distance of civilization where I would confidently fly such a thing without worrying about liquidizing somebody.
