Clobbered a SMT part on my USB protoboard...does it matter?

I accidentally clobbered what appears to be a SMT resistor on my USB Protobard...was trimming some wire to length and didn't see this little part underneath...caught it with the diagonal cutters.

I have a USB protoboard...the component in question is the SMT part that is located right next to the chip, between pins 18 & 19. It is very near the Vdd pin on that side of the prop chip, though I'm not sure the SMT part is actually connected to it.

I can still get a "hello world" response out of the board...before attempting a repair, I'm wondering what does that SMT part do and is there a reason I can't live with out it? Anybody know?

That's a bypass cap and, since it's the only one, it's vital to the health of your Propeller. Fortunately, there's an easy fix. Surrounding the Propeller chip there are pairs of holes marked Vss and Vdd. In at least two such pairs, on opposite sides of the chip, add 0.1uF ceramic caps.

Thanks, Phil. Sounds like I got lucky this time.

I guess its inevitable that this sort of thing happens...but when I did it last night, my spirits (and motivation) were instantly deflated. I'm re-inflated...thanks.

Are there any remnants of the "victim" that could cause any issues? If so, use an iron and flick them off. Had a similar thing happen to me once with a chipped resistor that actually changed resistance so adding a through hole resistor as a fix gave me wierd results until I discovered my circuit wasnt truly "repaired" until I completely removed the damaged part. Just a precautionary thought..........
