I can't seem to get SMTP working with yahoo or g-mail
'
From what I have read I need to set-up SMTP with yahoo or g-mail.
'
How do I do this?...
'
I see an option for $20.88 a year @ yahoo, "But Homey don't play that!"...I want $0.00 a year.
'
Any Ideas would be great.
'
I read some older post about SMTP but they didn't discus the e-mail provider side.
'
Am I wrong about the SMTP set-up with the e-mail provider?
'
The info I have found seems to be conflicting.
'
Any help would be great!!!!!
'
Thanks WMc

Not sure how you do this with the Spinneret, but

I use Outlook 2003 and the following settings for my free GMAIL account:
    1. user id and password of course
    2. incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
    3. outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
    advanced settings
    1. incoming server(POP3) port: 995 "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" is checked
    2. outgoing server(SMTP) port: 465 "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" is checked

Gmail and Yahho use Transport Layer Security (TLS). That means the SMPT messages are encrypted between the mail server. AFAIK, there are no SSL/TSL objects for the Spinneret.

If you don't want to use SSL, use ports 110 and 25 instead of 995 and 465 and uncheck the SSL boxes.

Ron, you are correct port 25 (and 587) are, by default, an unencrypted connection. Port 110 is a POP3 (incoming) connection. AFAIK gmail requires a secure connection - STARTTLS - even through port 25 and 587.

In the context of a Spinneret connection, I'm unaware of a SSL/TSL object to handle the authentication certificate exchange and encryption.

Mike, you must be correct - I tried on non-SSL setup test message and it failed.

    Oh well...
