Broken BS2

i fried a BS2 board of education today. I wasn't thinking, and hooked a piece of hookup wire(not a resistor) directly to a 2n2222 transistor with 12v across it, and assume i overdrew current from the i/o pin. when i plug it into my computer it will not communicate with stamp editor, and i get a loopback and echo response of yes. My question is about the boards value now. the board itself seems to be fine, i think just the module is broken. Does anyone know how much a repair would run me if i were to send it in to parallax? im not willing to pay to get a new module seeing as i can get a homework board kit for 30$ right now, but any estimates from someone at parallax or someone who has been in the same boat would be appreciated.
