Looking for a low volume source of ITO (indium tin oxide) or an alternative.

I want to put together a 1-&-done projected capacitive multitouch touch screen interface for a personal project but can't find any ITO (or anything else for that matter) in low volume! Someone MUST be doing it... ITO is so easy to obtain in large quantities it would be trivial to do, and reasonably profitable.

Edit: Uff, apparently that's not how it works in low volume. Instead of the cheap raw stuff you have to pay 200$ for a pre-done panel with 4 ohm accuracy lol

Yeah it is hard to get, and expensive. I managed to get some Acheson (Dag series) - you could try Acheson (now Henkel) and see if you can get a small sample pot, if not ITO then perhaps a transparent conductive polymer.

Perhaps another option would be to cut your own electrodes from some conductive material and hold them in place in side a standard laminating sleeve

Regardless of what you end up with, let us know how you go.

I REALLY hate abusing the sample system... I do not need something like this for anything other than hobby projects. Anyways, I'll just keep looking while I get started on my new prop-based ASRS!

Try the stores for a good university's Chemistry Department, if you really need the stuff.

I used to work at a university chemical stockroom. There was a time when the stockroom would sell supplies to "off campus" buyers at a 50% markup but I don't think they ever sold chemicals to "off campus" buyers.

Wow... Steal it from the children? Is that your advice? lol sheesh... I think I will just fork out the cash for a pre-fabbed panel, and then I will have done my good thing for the day.

We buy a lot of other Acheson product, sample pots are good where you just need a small quantity to research or hobby purposes. You can always pay them for your sample pot :)

Tell us more about what you're trying to do. I presume it's a research project, or for the joy of doing it yourself? Otherwise there are several capacitive touch panels on ebay for $20~60, eg

    A
    SRS? Automatic something?

ASRS = Automated Storage and Retrieval System. I have too many different values of resistors, sizes of screws, and other things.

The cap touch is as an add on to my resistive touch craplet (tablet) I made for my home automation project.

You could say I want to do it myself for the joy of it, but if you have any experience with cap touch you will know this is not the case LOL! It's mainly because I suffer from HBS (HomeBrew Syndrome - is this a local phrase or have you guys heard it before? Hah, we probably have alot of made up acronyms around here).

Anyways, if there isn't anyone selling this stuff in low quantities, I can probably buy some off a friend. I would have liked to avoid this, because they have to scrap for it too, but it is probably easier on my conscience than the alternatives.
