I was in the Army from 1980 to 1986 in communications. The "Hi-Tec" radio equipment we used at that time was all from Korean/Vietnam war era and all had vacuum tubes. It was not until 1985 that they actually started brining in and training us on Satellite equipment. Good ol Jimmy Carter's military cutbacks hard in play!!!! After Reagan was elected it took a while for the military to catch up with the real world!!!
