I have a 40-pin dip prop which works just fine at home no issues. I brought it to work to work on a project here and can't get the prop plug to be recognized by the computer.....tried it on another PC working just fine. All drivers are installed including FTDI..however under device manager and COM/LPT ports.....no usb to serial just my one COM and when I plug the USB Propplug into the PC nothing happens....and all other usb devices are working properly. Any idea guys? I feel stupid too bc im working at a PC repair shop....

Uninstall the FTDI driver. Make sure you don't have any FTDI devices plugged in. Download a fresh copy of the driver from FTDI and install it, then plug in the Propplug and see what you get.

Still nothing...its not a driver issue...it simply won't see the Propplug when it is pluged in.

What is in the device manager? Make sure to go to view --> show hidden devices and see if there is anything usb/com related that has the exclamation point/triangle.

As a reference point, when working properly, you should see USB Serial Port (COM[x]) under Ports (COM & LPT)

See if anything changes inside of the device manager.

When this happened to me, it was the cable strangely enough. The prop retractable cables seem to wear out prematurely. I'm sure you've tried different ports, and other devices on that same usb port, so it obviously isn't the port. Even if the driver is hosed though, it should recognize the device under other devices inside of the device manager.

Report back with the device manager information and after you've tried another cable.

By the way, I'm assuming that when you say "prop plug" you mean the device pictured below
